Group Health Benefits Plan

We offer a very competitive and thorough group benefits plan to employees and their eligible dependents, including MSP, Extended Health, Dental, Disability and Term Life Insurance, and access to our Employee Family & Assistance Program. There are also options for Health and Personal Spending Accounts and for purchasing additional vacation time. Best of all, Gulf & Fraser covers the cost for these benefits!

Group Retirement Plan

We understand that saving for your future is important, and the sooner you start saving, the better! That’s why after six months of employment, Gulf & Fraser will contribute 5.25% of your salary to a group retirement plan for you, increasing to 10.5% after one year! Your own contribution is optional. Our team of Wealth Management specialists will help you choose from a variety of available investment options that best suit your own financial goals.

​​Vacation and Personal Days

We recognize the importance of work-life balance as well as the value of a vacation to unwind and recharge! At Gulf & Fraser, all eligible employees enjoy a minimum of three weeks’ paid vacation. After your first year, you will receive one additional day for every year of service, to a maximum of 30 days. In addition, after 10 years of service (and every five years thereafter), you will receive a gift of one extra week of vacation as our way of saying thank you.

Along with work-life balance, we also recognize the importance of employee wellness, so we are happy to offer “Personal Days,” paid time off to deal with illness, personal appointments or care of a sick dependent, to ensure that everyone is well enough to be happy and productive at work! Employees bank one Personal Day per month. At the end of the year, any balance over 10 days is either paid out at 50% or a portion can be used towards paid volunteer time!

Employee recognition

A job well done deserves to be recognized! Gulf & Fraser encourages recognition for both individual and collaborative accomplishments through a variety of avenues, from our in-house Yammer social media site to our annual Night of Excellence where employees nominate their coworkers for a variety of formal awards. We all celebrate success together.

Employee engagement

We believe in communication, openness and transparency, and we welcome feedback from our employees, both positive and constructive. Employee feedback allows us to re-calibrate and re-focus on the priorities and initiatives that matter most to our employees. Our annual employee engagement scores have been in the range of 80 - 90% in recent years, well above the industry benchmark of 69%.

​​Charitable giving

Gulf & Fraser is a collaborative organization and we value the input of our employees on which charities we choose to support throughout the year. For the last several years, Gulf & Fraser has been supporting the United Way Lower Mainland and the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. We also host an annual golf tournament that supports a different charity each year. In recent years, we have supported both the Richmond Hospital Foundation and Burnaby Hospital Foundation.

Through the Gulf & Fraser Foundation, we encourage our employees to submit names to fundraise for the charity that personally resonates with them.

​​Green initiatives

Even though our Gulf & Fraser colours are orange and purple, we’re a very green organization at heart. We’ve taken several measures to work towards environmental sustainability and have earned a ClimateSmart certification for our reduced carbon emissions, successfully achieved since 2010. We offer our employees several options to make sustainable and environmentally friendly choices at work, including a robust recycling program, organics composting and options for transit subsidies through flex benefits to incentivize alternative methods of commuting to and from work.
