Giving back to our communities

As a community-based and member-owned credit union, Gulf & Fraser* is committed to doing business in a way that contributes to the social, economic and environmental well-being of the communities we serve.

In 2021, we gave over $1.1 million dollars to local community partners, charity groups, cultural and sports organizations, and students.

This was made possible through the collective efforts of the Board of Directors, our employees, members, the Gulf & Fraser Foundation, and our partnership with Aldergrove Credit Union.

Through the Gulf & Fraser Foundation, we supported charitable organizations around Metro Vancouver. Funds were directed toward a variety of purposes, including skills development and housing for persons with mental health issues, meals for the elderly, a new playground, bedding and supplies for at-risk youth, and kitchen renovations at a community hub.

We donated funds to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, United Way of the Lower Mainland and The Centre for Child Development; organizations that we see as having a significant impact on community health and well-being.

In 2021, we kept busy hosting some great community activities as part of our Financial Literacy Program. We delivered 30 webinars to a wide range of people on topics such as budgeting, loans, buying a home, banking in Canada, estate planning, investing, credit, financial planning, fraud, and more. We partnered with Junior Achievement British Columbia to deliver 54 personal finance classes to high school students in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. Local kids joined us for our first youth day-camp in summer 2021—completing a three-part workshop at our Edmonds Branch where they learned about spending, borrowing and investing. We look forward to offering more of these popular financial literacy events over the coming year.

We give more than just banking advice. We support others to plan, prepare and dream bigger!

By focusing on Powering the possible for our members and partners, we build brighter futures for all. As such, we empower, enrich, engage, educate and support initiatives that positively impact our communities in these three main areas of focus: community health, financial literacy and environmental impact.

Financial literacy sessions near you

Gulf & Fraser is active in communities around the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley areas of southern British Columbia. We visit high schools, community centres, and libraries, teaching financial literacy to people of all ages and walks of life.

We are inspired by people in our communities, by their hopes and dreams for the future. We believe financial literacy is critical to the prosperity and financial well-being of all Canadians. By sharing our knowledge, we help people achieve their own bright horizons and Power their possible.

Our financial literacy sessions are interactive and tailored to meet the specific needs of those attending each session. The content relates to current and relevant topics. Our presenters are focused on sharing information—not promoting products.

During these sessions, we provide education on financial topics related to students, adults, families, entrepreneurs and business owners.
